Addressing Suicide and Other Mental Health Crises Dec 2022

In 2020 45,979 Americans died by suicide and an estimated 1.2 million Americans made suicide attempts. Issues such as the current mental health crisis in the US, the COVID pandemic, and increased social emotional struggles amongst young adults and teens have attributed to the staggering increase in suicides or attempts over the past few years.

This training will explore both the risk factors and warning signs for suicide, while also looking at how the current social landscape has contributed to suicidal thinking. Participants will be introduced to tools to aid in effectively assessing and screening for suicide and will be given concrete resources to address mental health crises in real time.

LO1: Gain knowledge about the history of suicide prevention and interventions

LO2: Review and apply the varying risk levels of suicide and intervention strategies for each risk level

LO3: Familiarize self with with various risk and suicide assessment tools and their usage and functionality

LO4: Review the response to mental health crises and the procedures and processes around both voluntary and involuntary commitments
